Not Done Yet….Browns Trade For Packers CB Damarious Randall.

Anyone got a pack of smokes? Still sweating from the Tyrod Taylor trade. John Dorsey pulled off a third Trade in the span of an hour and a half. This time he sent DeShone Kizer and a late round draft choice to Green Bay. In exchange, the Browns received Cornerback, Damarious Randall.

Excellent work by Dorsey on this one. Randall was Green Bay’s top corner this past season. Randall was drafted in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Packers. With the Green Bay roots in Cleveland’s front office, this one comes as a little less surprising. Randall has 10 interceptions through 2 full seasons.

Shame to have to give up on DeShone Kizer less than a year removed from drafting him. I still believe he will succeed in the NFL. Despite his accuracy issues, anti-clutch gene, and 0-16 record, Kizer handled a truly horrible season in a professional manner. He never complained, called any of his teammates out, and always shouldered responsibility. For that, I will always respect the shit out of DeShone Kizer. Hue Jackson did his best to destroy the kid, but he kept his head up. Some games he really looked like he could be something. The Packers will coach him up well.

Go fucking Browns.

Browns Trade for QB Tyrod Taylor.

Holy shit! Big Dick John Dorsey made another move Friday, just minutes after the Jarvis Landry trade. This time the Browns acquired Quarterback, Tyrod Taylor from the Bills. In exchange, the Bills received a third round draft selection.

This one is stunning. I fully expected AJ McArron to be the Browns starting Quarterback in 2018. Instead, Dorsey shelled out a mid-round draft pick for Tyrod. No issue with the trade, as Sashi Brown STILL shits out mid-round draft picks each morning. Not bad adding Jarvis Landry and Tyrod Taylor in the span of 45 minutes!

https://youtu.be/KlN_9UnHv8Q

I don’t know what to say. I was high on Tyrod for the longest time, and then he couldn’t hit a three yard check down in his playoff game. Hey it’s a competent Quarterback under center. I’ll take it.

Go Browns…more to come

Browns Trade for WR Jarvis Landry.

Hey now! Bit of a surprising move here on a casual Friday afternoon! The Browns have traded a pick in both the 2018 and 2019 drafts for ex Dolphins Wide Receiver, Jarvis Landry.

Nice way to kick off the off-season for big dick Dorsey. They’ll pick up Landry and his $16 million franchise tag for 1 season. If it works out, than an extension could be in the works. If not, they’ll move on. It’s a low risk move for the Browns. I would prefer that they wait to see who will be under center, and how well Landry fits before an extension is discussed. I am sure he would be receptive to an extension, or else the Browns wouldn’t have made the trade.

I’m not going to get too excited. I’m more curious to see if free-agents are willing to sign here than Landry who was traded. Hopefully this acquisition will show others the Browns mean business, and this leads to a few more acquisitions (Trumaine Johnson, Malcolm Butler).

It’s nice to add a pro-bowl player to the mix for sure, but Landry is coming off a down-ish year. Jay Cutler factor? Down year or not, the prospect of Gordon on the outside and Landry underneath….well that gets blood flowing.

Nice first move by Dorsey and company, but let’s not get carried away. 0-16 is 0-16 no matter how you slice it. Jarvis Landry doesn’t suddenly make this team .500, Daniel Jeremiah. This team has a long way to go. Let’s go Browns!

^Easy guy^

With The First Pick of The 2018 NFL Draft, The Cleveland Browns Select: Josh Allen.

Image result for Josh Allen

Silly season continues, as this past weekend has been the NFL Combine.  Prospects from all over this great land assembled in Indianapolis to do a bunch of meaningless drills, and interviews.  That brings us to our fourth Quarterback will most certainly be discussing as an option at first overall, or even fourth.

Out of all the options at Quarterback in the 2018 Draft Class, Josh Allen is down towards the bottom.  Why you ask?  Easy, there have been about 100 Josh Allen’s in past NFL Drafts.  First off, he’s a fucking monster standing at 6’4, 240 lbs.  Just a fucking linebacker playing QB.  These are obviously seen as positive traits. He is a guy who will be able to withstand NFL punishment.   Another talking point is his hands, big people have large hands, and Josh Allen’s hands are pretty big.  These are all contributing factors to this guys cannon of an arm.

josh allen stats.PNG

josh allen stats 2

The career stats for Allen are as posted above.  The biggest takeaway: What the fuck happened this year?  I see a significant statistical drop-off in almost every major category in 2017.  He threw 12 less TD’s in 2017. He also declined in interceptions, which is obviously a good thing.  Just head scratching statistics.  This guy can throw it 90 fucking yards, but he averaged only 6.7 yards per attempt in 2017?  He is a surprisingly decent runner.  In 2016 he ran for 523 yards and 7 TD’s.  Again, those numbers plummeted in 2017, where he only rushed for 204 yards, and 5 TD’s.  For such a big body.

Josh-Allen-Dime.gif

So, the kid has a good arm.  He can move around in the pocket ala Big Ben, should the Browns draft him to be the Quarterback of the future? ABSOLUTELY NOT.  First off, I hadn’t watched ANY of this kids games, because well I am not a Wyoming fan.  He is coming from that typical two-bit, punching Judy College offense.  The QB is hardly under center, and almost every fucking play is a run-pass option.  He hasn’t displayed the ability to take snaps under center consistently, at least from what I am seeing.  I watched that highlight tape (the first time I’ve watched Josh Allen) and I saw less than 10 snaps come from under center.  I saw a few bootlegs, but that’s about it.

Basically what I see when I watch this tape, is a big dude who relies on his natural arm strength.  He’s got accuracy issues that may not ever be fixed.  Doesn’t matter how far you throw it when you can’t hit the target.  But, Danny! What if the Browns develop him properly?!   We have a Josh Allen on the Roster already, and his name is DeShone Kizer.  Kizer is a a guy who is massive, has a rocket arm, can run, and has insane accuracy issues.   Kizer may never be fixed, which leads me to believe we wouldn’t be able to develop Allen in the first place.

(^Looks sexy doesn’t it^)

For that reason, I am OUT on Josh Allen.  The question is, are the Browns out on him too?  I sure hope so…

Browns Hire Scot McCloughan as Draft Consultant

Interesting move by the Browns here.  I assumed once Eliot Wolf was hired, that would probably be it for Dorsey and company until Free Agency.  I was wrong.  Dorsey went out and made another Front Office hire. Dorsey has brought in ex Redskins General Manager, Scot McCloughan.  So far, it’s been reported that he is only being hired as a 2018 Draft Consultant, and no other duties have been specified.

Image result for scot mccloughan drunk

Kind of a surprising move hiring this guy.  I thought for sure they had their Front Office all lined up, and ready to rock.  It is a nice addition to the Organization, as Scot is highly regarded for his ability to identify talent.  The man is Football Scouting Savant.  Seems to fit the M-O of the front office, a collection of Football Lifers, who are known for identifying talent.  The more the merrier here in Berea, OH.

A few highlights from Scot’s career are as follows:

  1. Identified, scouted, and drafted Russell Wilson with the Seattle Seahawks.  Wilson was picked by Seattle 75th overall in 2012.
  2. Drafted Alex Smith first overall in 2005, when he was with San Francisco.  He took him over Aaron Rodgers, but it is still very difficult to draft a successful Quarterback in the first round.  Even if it is the first round, success rate is 40% league wide.  He found a successful NFL starter.  That earns you a statue in Cleveland.
  3. Along with Wilson, the Seahawks front office with McCloughan found Kam Chancellor, and Richard Sherman with later round picks.  Image result for Sherman Chancellor

Bottom line here is, the Browns are terrified of fucking up what is ahead. The amount of picks, and cap space make this off-season absolutely vital. They have added some big-time names to the executive staff, in hopes they won’t fuck it up (Mainly fucking up selecting a Quarterback).

If the Browns could add a few starters in free agency (you’d play for us on Super Bowl Sunday, Malcolm!), parlay that with a good draft, and look out! We might even win a game?!

Or maybe a reunion with TP11?

Of course our man McCloughan will focus on the Browns draft plans, rather than Free Agency.  The Browns draft plans revolve around Quarterback, and drafting twice in the top 5 he will have a huge role in scouting, and interviewing all the QB prospects.  Early on in there seems to be one rookie QB Scot has the hots for.  He’s already sucked off one of the top Quarterbacks verbally during Senior Bowl week.

In an interview with Pro Football Talk McCloughan drooled, “He reminds me of a shorter version of Brett Favre,” McCloughan said. “Tough guy. He can throw it. And he’s very confident, and he’s not afraid whatsoever, whatsoever. He’s a battler. I know saying Brett Favre’s a big name, and I was around him for a while, but this guy has talent.”

Should be an interesting couple of months. New Year,  new Browns baby!!

With the First Pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Cleveland Browns Select: Baker Mayfield.

Image result for Baker Mayfield senior bowl

This is a time of year that is just the worst for sports.  Football will be over this time next week.  That means we’re stuck with silly Draft hype.  We will be getting slammed with Senior Bowl, Combine, and Pro-Day bullshit until our ears bleed.  Figured now is as good a time as ever to break down the top Quarterbacks in this years draft class.  Let’s kick it off with Baker Mayfield, 2018 Heisman Trophy Winner.  Is he qualified to be selected number 1 overall?

There is something about this kid, man.  I’ve said it a few times, but Mayfield is really the only Quarterback that intrigues me to a high degree.  Darnold, Rosen, and Allen just don’t move the needle for me.  Maybe it is because those guys are more of the “Prototype” Pro Quarterback.  Tall pocket passers with good arm-strength.  Mayfield is anything but tall.  Mayfield stands at 6 feet tall, and 216 ponds.  Certainly not built like most Franchise Quarterbacks.

I certainly understand the risks with Mayfield going in.  Much like Johnny Manziel, Mayfield took the College Football world by storm with electrifying play.  Much like Manziel, Baker is considered shorter than the ideal NFL Quarterback, but still electrifies.  They both have had issues with off-the-field issues in the past as well.  With all the similarities, there are differences to point out.

The first major difference is the way in which Johnny and Mayfield ran their offense.  Johnny was running a college based, read-option offense.  It involved a lot of Johnny improvising, and chucking the ball up to Mike Evans.  Evans was a man playing among boys at that time.

Taking a look at the highlights, it is pretty clear how simple Johnny’s offense was at A&M.  He was a one read and run guy.  He hardly ever stood in the pocket, and made his progressions.  At the slightest bit of pressure, or sign the play was breaking down Johnny took off running.  In the This lead to many highlight reel plays in college, as in the open-field Johnny was so hard to stop.  The Texas A&M offense set him up to fail in the NFL.  It was too improvisational, and he had an NFL ready Wide-Out at his disposal in Mike Evans.

Johnny in the NFL was nothing short of a disaster, particularly outside of Football. The second his name was announced, his time in Cleveland was a media circus.  On-field wasn’t great in 2014. Despite what many will tell you, 2015 Johnny was mostly good on the field.  The only real disaster performance came in his first career start in 2014.

After a tough start in 2014, and entering rehab; Johnny came back strong in 2015. Despite having next to no weapons, or belief from his coaches, Johnny put up solid numbers in his first chunk of playing time in the NFL. He finished 2015 with 9 games played.  He threw for 1,500 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.  He added 230 rushing yards on 37 attempts.  Johnny’s off-field issues took off during the middle of the 2015 campaign, and got so bad he was released in March of 2016.

With Baker displaying tamer, albeit similar off-field concerns you would think the Browns would scratch him off their QB Short-list ASAP.  Based off the sound bites from this past Weekend’s Senior Bowl, Browns GM John Dorsey is intrigued with the Oklahoma Signal Caller, and maybe enough to take him with the number 1 overall draft selection this April.

First things first, Baker Mayfield is nearly a spitting image of what Johnny Manziel was in some ways.  He’s a fiery competitor, who isn’t shy with words or actions.  Manziel had his patented “Money Manziel Sign”, and Mayfield stuck his teams flag in the middle of Ohio State’s field, which got a lot of heat for reasons unknown.  Grow up you fucking pussies.  Oh, and he’s grabbed his junk on TV clear as day.

Image result for Money Manziel sign     Image result for Baker Mayfield junk

To the naked eye, Manziel and Mayfield look like one in the same.  Mayfield runs a similar offense to what A&M was running in 2012-2013.  It is a lot of read option, run-pass option type plays.  While the offense is similar, Mayfield plays the game completely different than Manziel did.  He has balls.  By balls, I mean he doesn’t take off at the slightest sign of trouble, or his number 1 read is taken away.

Take a look at his 2018 Rose Bowl Highlights.  Mayfield expresses the pocket presence and poise that Johnny never had.  You can see on multiple big plays, Mayfield is in the pocket moving his eyes downfield, and eventually hitting his 3rd/4th option for a big gain.  He doesn’t rely on scampering through College Linebackers once the play breaks down.  He does run, but it feels like he runs more on design, than improvisation.

Baker has done it these past two years with a group of JAGS at Wide-Receiver.  I think this has actually helped himself.  He hasn’t had the downfield options that Johnny did, so he’s had to develop better deep throw accuracy.  I feel like the placement on his deeper throws is far superior to Manziel.  Manziel had the luxury of turning his head and throwing it as far as possible in the direction of Mike Evans.

Mayfield Stats 2

Manziel stats 2

These are the career college stats for both Johnny, and Baker.  Those who have been saying these two are a cut from the same cloth are just wrong.  Johnny caught fire in 2012, and carried it into 2013.  Baker has consistently performed at a high level.  With each year, you can see Baker’s stats grow.  The most impressive growth I see is, Average Yards per Attempt.  Baker’s grew from 10.4. to 12.3, and finally 12.9.  It shows that he developed into a quality downfield passer as he learned the college game.  Manziel’s Average Yards per Attempt was, 8.8 in 2012, and 10 in 2013.  Not even in the same ballpark as Mayfield.  It goes to show you how different they really are.

Should the Browns take Mayfield with the number 1 overall pick this fall?  I think he is as good an option as anyone to be drafted by the Browns this spring.  There is is something about the kid that makes me so intrigued.  He has the desire, and drive to lead his team to victory.  He isn’t afraid of anyone, and it shows on the field.  Is he cocky?  He absolutely is, but you can see how much he motivates his teammates on the field.  Baker has had an off-field incident, but it hasn’t plagued him nearly as much as Manziel’s issues.  Everything about Mayfield leads me to believe he really has the motivational drive in him, whereas the confidence Manziel displayed was more or less a front.

Mayfield has even expressed desire in being the Qaurterback to turn things around in Cleveland (Hey Josh Rosen, he ain’t scared ya fucking pussy). Whether this is just Pre-Draft bull-shit being spewed is yet to be determined.

Will Baker Mayfield be the Browns Quarterback in the Future when they hit the podium in April?   We’ll see…

Browns Hire Todd Haley as Offensive Coordinator

The Browns made some more news last night, as many insiders began to report that Todd Haley would be named Offensive Coordinator for the Cleveland Browns.  Previously, the Browns had interviewed Ben McAdoo and Mike Mularkey.  Neither name really moves the needle.  This hiring comes just over a week after Haley was fired from the same position with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Haley spent the previous six seasons with Steelers as Offensive Coordinator.  Before Pittsburgh, Haley spent two and a half seasons as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and a year under Ken Wisenhunt as the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator.

Image result for Todd Haley Kurt Warner

More recently, Haley has been the Offensive Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He is the brains behind the Bell, Brown, Ben, and Bryant.  He was fired this season after the Steelers lost 45-42 at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Round.  His team scored 42 fucking points on the 5th ranked defense in terms of points allowed.  In the regular season the Steelers finished third in total yards per game on offense with, 377.9.  In his first full season the Steelers finished 20th in yards per game, and the remaining years they would not finish below 10th in the league in offense.  In the the end, the long-lasting feud between Haley and Roethlisberger was  too much to overcome.

Haley’s most impressive work doesn’t come from Pittsburgh as many believe.  His time with Matt Cassel in Kansas City to me is his finest work.  Haley turned Matt fucking Cassel into a Pro-Bowl Quarterback, and he managed to lead them into the Playoffs.   In 2010 Haley and Cassel finished at 10-6, which was good enough to win the AFC West.  Cassel was named a Pro-Bowl Alternate, as he finished 2010 with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.   Anyone who can make a JAG like Matt Cassel look like a Pro-Bowler can play (coach) for my team any day of the week.

I am certainly optimistic about this hiring, because Haley has a track record of offensive success. He has worked with Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Ben Roethlisberger, and Matt Cassel  most recently.  All of them had success.  Hell, even Kurt Warner still holds a close place in his heart for Todd:

At the end of the day this is just a hire.  Just a nice name on paper to droll over for a few months, and then call for his firing.  One positive that can come from this move is Dorsey continues to get his ducks in a row.  He’s got his two Front Office Executives, and now an Offensive Coordinator.    Hopefully a new head coach is not too far off, and he has a plan that will be fully executed.

The Patriots Complete the Comeback En Route to Their 10th Super Bowl

The Jaguars carried a 20-10 lead into the fourth quarter and had a chance to stop the Patriots on a key 3rd and 18 backed up in their own territory.

Let’s rewind real quick.

CBS hit us with a fantastic opener with almost countered the fact that we had to listen to Tony Romo all day

The Patriots opened up with a quick FG on a productive drive to make it look like they weren’t going to have any issues with the Jaguars defense. The Jacksonville offense, however, had other plans.

We saw Marcedes Lewis catch his only pass of the day on an easy, wide-open TD.

And then we saw a Fournette TD to put the Gillette Stadium on edge.

14-3 is not the greatest look against one of the best defenses in the league. The Patriots however did manage to drive down the field and get a TD before half (as they always do well) to go into the locker room at 14-10.  The bad news however, was that they lost Gronk to a brutal hit by Church.

It was a lackluster third quarter which saw the Jaguars take a 20-10 lead after two Lambo FGs.

The Patriots looked to be in trouble after a double-pass play from Amendola to Dion Lewis resulted in a fumble caused & recovered by Myles Jack. The Patriots got the ball back and were faced with 3rd and 18 and as all NFL fans know, this went exactly how you thought it would.

https://twitter.com/barstooltweetss/status/955207074409074689

Amendola then capped the drive with a touchdown.

https://twitter.com/CaseyBake16/status/955206671667691521

The Patriots then got the ball back and well .. you know how this one goes as well.

The Jags did put up a small drive to end the game but ultimately could not get the pass to Dede Westbrook as Stephon Gilmore (who has barely made a play all year) made the deflection of his career. The Patriots got the ball back and Dion Lewis finishes the job on third down.

https://twitter.com/CaseyBake16/status/955215346855763969

Hats off to the Jags — Belichick is never that happy so this game was clearly in danger of being lost. However, in the end it just wasn’t enough to stop the Patriots for going for #6. The Jags will be back but it’s still the Patriots’ time.

P.S. Get that trophy the hell away from Bill if it’s not the Lombardi.

Revisiting the Minneapolis Miracle

It’s been about 5 days now since what may go down as the best NFL playoff finish ever. The Minnesota Vikings, led by long-time backup Case Keenum, were able to shock the Saints after a back-and-forth 2 minutes which both teams kicked go-ahead FGs. If that wasn’t enough to believe, take a look at the win probability chart:

And well the rest is history…

Even Case Keenum can’t believe what Case Keenum did. I wanted to let this sit for awhile to not give it the early reaction of being the best finish ever. Obviously the Music City Miracle was the first thing to come to mind.  It’s still an early reaction but this is a no-brainer for me. This is the best finish ever. How could you not like this — unless you’re a Saints fan of course.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kXEa9FkRzc

Odin.Thor. Keenum. All Vikings legends.

The tackle attempt by Marcus Williams was of course an awful approach but he’s 20 years old and made a key interception in the game — the kid will bounce back. This season has been a great storyline for the Vikings and Case Keenum, who may not even be on the team next year with Bridgewater & Bradford both coming back. The Vikings of course are not able to ride homefield advantage all the way to the Super Bowl as the Eagles won their game.

PS — Reaction videos will never get old

Jaguars Shock the Steelers

We heard all week about how the Steelers were going to beat the Patriots — from the Steelers themselves. Mike Mitchell had a fantastic quote:

Le’Veon Bell followed it up with a nice Saturday night tweet (which has not since been deleted so good for him standing him ground):

And then this happened:

jaxpit

The 2017-18 season where a team can score 10 points in a home playoff game against Buffalo and follow it up with 45 points at Heinz Field to knock off the Steelers. AND it’s the Jaguars that did it. Crazy.

The Jaguars raced out to a 21 point lead and looked to easily run away with it as Leonard Fournette passed Le’Veon Bell for rushing TDs at Heinz Field this year (crazy stat). However, the Steelers kept fighting back but could never get ahead again. Bortles didn’t play fantastic but he did just enough to keep his team in front of Pittsburgh and never allowed them to take the lead. Pittsburgh had some incredible TDs and Big Ben still threw 5 TDs on the elite Jaguars’ defense but it was not enough.

The Jaguars move on and everyone’s preseason prediction of the formerly 3-13 Jaguars against the Patriots comes true. The Jaguars certainly deserve some respect but run into the immovable object that is the Patriots next week for a chance to play in Minneapolis.
