Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Sentenced to 25 Days in Jail

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was sentenced to a 25 day jail sentence for violating his probation stemming from a driving under the influence charge last March.

Somehow, he has been granted a work release which will allow him to practice and play games for the Los Angeles Lakers. According to the courts, he is not allowed to leave the state of California, so he will miss the Lakers games against Houston and Minnesota, but play against Golden State.

This is an absolute joke — how does Caldwell-Pope violate his probation, get sentenced to 25 days in jail and be allowed to practice and play games for the Lakers. Under no circumstance should he be allowed to play while serving jail time. He should serve his time without work release or don’t give him any jail time at all.

I guess it’s true, the Lakers really do rule LA…

Indians Sign Yonder Alonso

The Cleveland Indians have filled their void at First Base by signing Yonder Alonso. The deal is for two years at $16 million, with an $8 million vesting option for a third year.

Although this move isn’t a big splash, the Indians get a comparable player to Carlos Santana at a bargain price. Santana signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for 3 years $60 million.

Last year, Alonso hit 28 HR and 67 RBI’s with a .266 BA, while Santana hit 23 HR and 79 RBI’s with a .259 BA.

Again, not a big splash but atleast there is no real drop off in production and you get him for a third of the cost.

Semi-Truck Crashes into Pool of Blazers’ Evan Turner

In Portland, Oregon a semi-truck hauling a large trash bin lost control and tumbled into the swimming pool of the home owned by Portland Trail Blazers Evan Turner.

According to police, the truck driver lost control on a hairpin curve and ended up plunging down a hill before crashing into Turner’s pool.

At this time the driver, who was not identified, sustained serious injures and was taken to the Oregon Health and Science University Medical Center for treatment.

Based on Turners’ comments it appears as though he was not home at the time of the incident.

Turner was asked about the situation following  the Trail Blazers loss to the Spurs, “I wasn’t aware that the driver was injured or how badly,” Turner said Wednesday afternoon through a team spokesman. “But I’m obviously grateful that the first responders were able to rescue him and I hope and pray he’ll be fine.”

Ex-NBA Player Charlie Villanueva has Toilet and Appliances Stolen

This will be the most bizarre story you hear all day, former NBA player Charlie Villanueva took to Twitter to complain about his Dallas home being burglarized. The thieves took off with what you would expect appliances, jewelry, etc — but this is where the story gets good, they also stole his toilet.

For Charlie’s sake, I hope he gets his toilet back. You just don’t steal another man’s toilet. Plain and simple.

Rays Trade Evan Longoria to Giants

Breaking news: The Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants have agreed on a trade that will send 3B Evan Longoria and cash to the Giants for 3B Christian Arroyo and OF Denard Span along with prospects LHP Matt Krook & Stephen Woods.

Bad news for Pablo Sandoval, looks like hes out of a job again. This now gives the Giants another big bat in their lineup to go along with Buster Posey.

For the Rays, they get a young player who has great upside and a veteran CF that they can plug in for a year. The Rays also shed Longoria’s contract and even though its a bargain it will still help lower their payroll.

In the end, it looks like both sides win. I would give a slight edge to the Giants because Longoria is a stud and will help them immediately.

Isaiah Thomas Scrimmaging with Cavs G-League Team

Don’t look now but Isaiah Thomas is inching closer to playing his first game as a Cavalier.

Thomas, who injured his hip in last years Eastern Conference Playoffs, is reportedly going to scrimmage with the Cavs G-League affiliate this week, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

It appears that the plan is for Thomas to participate in his first five-on-five practice with the Canton Charge, in either the Cavs’ practice facility or in Canton. This will be Isaiah’s first real competitive test in his rehab since joining the Cavs back in August.

There still is no definitive date for his return, but Isaiah made a comment that he’d like to return in early January. As it turns out the Cavs play the Celtics on January 3rd.. revenge game anyone?

Bill Belichick Restricts access for Tom Brady’s Trainer

After weeks of speculation, it appears that we are able to confirm that the New England Patriots have stripped Tom Brady’s trainer Alex Guerrero of various team privileges.

Since 2013, Tom has trained and received medical treatment for Alex. The two are partner’s in Brady’s TB12 Center, which is located next to Gillette stadium. Part of the problem might be that Guerrero is now treating more players on the Patriots roster and that is causing friction between Alex and the Patriots training staff.

According to the Globe, Guerrero, who has an office near the Patriots’ locker room in Gillette Stadium, is no longer permitted to treat players other than Brady in the office. He also is reportedly banned from boarding Patriots team planes and no longer has sideline access.

Although, Guerrero is now restricted within the locker room, he is still allowed to meet with Patriot players, but it will have to happen at the TB12 facility. A player receiving treatment from a person other than the teams’ trainer isn’t something that is uncommon, but for a personal trainer to cause friction and ultimately get banned from a team is what makes this story peculiar.

This story isn’t over and as more leaks get made public, we will find out more information. No matter how you spin this story all parties come out looking bad in the end.

Catch or No Catch?

What an ending to an absolutely crazy game. For those who didn’t watch, the Patriots took the lead with 56 seconds remaining, Big Ben threw a crossing route to Juju Smith-Schuster who took the ball 69 yards down to the Patriots 10 yard line. The very next play — Jesse James caught a 10 yard touchdown and it looked like Pittsburgh won the game, but hold on, they are reviewing the play but what for? It turns out that in slow motion —  James caught the ball, had 1 knee down and when he extended the ball towards the end-zone the ball came loose. The play was reversed and ruled an incomplete pass. The stadium went nuts and then two plays later the Pats pick off Big Ben to win the game. What an insane ending. Needless to say that the entire country flipped out.

Let’s remember this is the NFL and no one has a clue what is a catch and what isn’t. I personally believe the refs made the right call. As stated in the rules, the ball has to survive the ground — which it didn’t. You can clearly see the ball move and hit the ground when he extended. The whole country can cry as much as they want and Danny can tell us this is why football sucks but it doesn’t change the fact that the ball came loose and was ruled correctly.

Here is the reaction of Ryan Shazier and Juju Smith- Schuster

At the end of the day us Patriot fans are satisfied, we won the game, we won the AFC East, we now own the top spot in the AFC and will hopefully have home field advantage all the way to the Super Bowl. Not a bad day if you ask me.

Top Fantasy Performers of Week 13

Week 13 provided us yet another disappointing NFL weekend. It was the classic blowout, blowout, blowout, close game, blowout weekend that provides almost no entertainment. With that said, there were some impressive performances by a few individuals that deserve some recognition.

The top 2 QBs this week were Alex Smith and Josh McCown.

Alex Smith was a stud this week, he put up big numbers through the air and on the ground. He threw for 366 yards, 4 TD’s and added a rush for 70 yards. The top fantasy player of the week put up 45 points.

Josh McCown was brilliant on Sunday, matching Alex Smith touchdown for touchdown. He threw for 331 yards and 1 TD as well as rushing for 2 TD’s. This was one of his best games of the season and ended up with 32 points.

The top 2 RBs this week were Alvin Kamara and Le’Veon Bell.

Alvin Kamara was a top performer last week and most likely will be a top performer for the rest of the season. The do-it-all back rushed 9 times for 60 yards, 2 TD’s and caught 5 of 6 balls for 66 yards. He averaged 29 points across most leagues.

Le’Veon Bell played well in Mondays ugly game, he rushed 18 times for 76 yards and caught 5 of 6 balls for 106 yards and a TD. The TD was bogus considering the defender gave up on the play,  but nevertheless it counted.

The top 2 WRs this week were Tyreek Hill and Nelson Agholor.

Tyreek Hill was putting up big numbers as usual, running right by his defenders. He caught 6 of 9 passes for 185 yards and 2 TD’s. He ended up with 36 points.

Nelson Agholor had an impressive week, too bad the rest of the Eagles could put up these type of numbers. He caught 7 of 12 balls for 141 yards and a TD. He ended up with 27 points.

The top 2 TEs this week were Travis Kelce and Rob Gronkowski.

Kelce started the game off with a bang with a long touchdown, but didn’t do much after that. He ended he game with 4 catches, 94 yards and 2 TD’s. He led all tight-ends with 25 points.

Gronk had a near perfect game minus the huge bonehead play at the end of the game that got him suspended. Although he didn’t score a touchdown, he dominated the Bills up and down the field. He finished the game catching 9 of 11 passes for 147 yards. He ended up with 23 points.

Jimbo Fisher Resigns From FSU and Joins Texas A&M

The long awaited ending to the Jimbo Fisher saga has come to an end. Fisher, has stepped down as the coach of Florida State and signed with Texas A&M. There have been rumors for weeks that A&M was targeting Fisher and after firing Kevin Sumlin this week, they were able to convince Jimbo to come to College Station.

Fisher is coming off his worst season as FSU head coach, finishing the season at 5-6. He had taken Florida State to three consecutive ACC titles and 1 national championship.

Although the details of his contract have not been made public, it is expected that Fisher will make between $7 – $7.5 million per season.
